Internship | Prerequisite Documents
1 . Internship Application
MusicWorx internship candidates must complete and submit a MusicWorx internship application in order to be considered for internship. Internship candidates submitting applications now will be considered for internship openings one calendar year in the future. MusicWorx offers only two internships each quarter, for a total of eight internships per year. Complete application instructions appear in the application.
Documentation Required to Protect Interns and Their Patients
Applicants accepted into the MusicWorx internship program will need to obtain documentation that they meet background, drug, insurance, and training requirements put in place to protect interns as well as the patients they treat. Listed on this page are all the prerequisites. Interns should complete as many as possible prior to the internship term, as absence of proper evidence will delay intern work clearance.
2 . Background Check and Drug Screening
The majority of health care facilities require background checks and drug screenings. Once an intern candidate is accepted, MusicWorx will send the intern paperwork required to begin the process. The approximate intern cost for this is $85.
3 . Health . Hepatitis Immunization
This series of inoculations is offered at no charge to all staff members of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. MusicWorx interns are considered to be staff. Interns may want to start the series in their home states and complete the final set of vaccinations in La Jolla.
4 . Health . Rubella (German Measles) and Rubcola (Red Measles) Immunization
All interns born in or after 1957 must present proof of immunity in one of the following three forms:
- Documentation of two rubella vaccinations and two rubcola vaccinations after the age of one. The MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine immunizes against both rubella and rubcola, but two doses are necessary. Interns lacking this documentation will require both MMRs, administered no closer than one month apart, or
- documentation signed by a personal physician that you have contracted both rubella and rubcola, or
- documentation that blood drawn and tested determined immunity to rubella and rubcola. Such a blood test requires a physician's authorization.
5 . Health . Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Two TB skin screenings are required of all interns. Interns who can present documentation that they have undergone one screening within one year prior to their internship term commencement may consider it as one of the two tests. The second skin screening must be completed in San Diego.
